In respect of ensuring adequate numbers of nurses, we would wish to remind Ministers that England, Wales and Scotland already have the highest numbers of nurses in the world at just over 1,500,000. Despite the current shortage, nurses in England are still paid less than in other European countries, with the lowest paid nurses in the OECD earning 15% less than they would earn in France.
