Hey, everybody. Adi and I have known each other since 2011, starting as tag-team dungeon videographers then eventually becoming a couple over the past few years. At the time, we were both pretty much unsponsored, making the Dungeon videos our paycheck and dreams: he in video production (a caster at the time), and I in web design and general weird interests (eventually events coordinator). This is the beginning of the journey and we’d like to give you a taste of what the journey looks like.
My two most-played games around this time are Valkyria Chronicles on the PSP and Atelier Ayesha on the DS, and when I’m doing solo runs of those games (and sometimes Valkyria Chronicles II), I find myself playing both games simultaneously. I find that I’m incredibly effective at someone who’s attempting to play through both games simultaneously, because I can frequently switch between the games to complete sidequests or get all of that content. But in a time-constrained environment (meeting up with friends, chores, etc.), I’d rather only play the game I can do at a highly-efficient pace.
At this same time, a few folks at Monolith were asking us if we’d want to do a song together and work on a concept before attempting to release a song on video. Without knowing what it meant nor what it would be like to work together, we submitted songs to them, and after a couple weeks of contemplation on my part, we submitted a song we were pretty attached to. When they picked us as a winner, I put it on a playlist on my YouTube account. Later, I got a phone call from my desktop (no need to roam my home, folks) and they told me they wanted the full song for their next game. I was excited and somewhat nervous at the same time. I said, “Alright, I’ll give you the full thing.” And a few weeks later we released a video with five minutes of footage and two minutes of music, all with the help of the folks at Monolith. It was a great lesson in learning what they’d want for the track. And it was great to hear that we had convinced them we could do a quality video with a mix of video and audio.
At some point then, after they picked our song, they also asked us to make a concept for a game demo where you could experience the main concept (the idea)
