the movie, as its name suggests, has a lot to do with a lot of things: visions, dreams, mental illness, and death. it is about fear, and how we fear certain things so much that we consider them hallucinations. it is about our collective subconscious, and how it works. it is about the fear that we have for ourselves. it is about our mortality. it is about loneliness, and what it feels like to live with that kind of loneliness. it is a very fascinating story, and i really enjoyed it. the story is based on the japanese novel “the ring,” and the film adaptation of that novel was very good. some critics have called this movie the best horror movie of the year.
the movie is not for everyone. many people will find it boring, repetitive, and unclear. so, if that is the case, you will probably not find it to be too thrilling. even if you can get past the movie, the dvd has some flaws. on the special features side, the documentary features great interviews with the director and a number of the actors in the movie. it is very interesting to see what they had to say about the movie and their roles in it. there is also an interview with the screenwriter, and then an interview with the director. some of the interviewees are hilarious, and you can see why the movie is as popular as it is. unfortunately, there is no commentary track. so if you want to hear the director talk about the movie, you will have to view it on the dvd.
but, if you are willing to look past some of the flaws and enjoy what the movie has to offer, then you will be in for a really good time. i definitely recommend this movie. watch it if you like the horror movie genre, and if youre the type of person who enjoys movies that are visually interesting, and unique.
