Qasas al-Anbiya by al-Afghani. This is a contemporary book of which the first two chapters are on the story of the Prophet (pics). This book includes a lot of material that is very useful, and has a lot of points of interest. For example, it brings out the nature of people and their characters by way of examples and anecdotes. Al-Afghani also includes a description of the Prophet’s era in his beginning chapters, which are something that does not appear in the other books of this kind that we have written about.

Qasas al-Anbiya by al-Fayruz al-Ayyashi (d. 935 AH). This book includes the narration of the story of the Prophet in a manner that is very comprehensive and detailed, and is a good introduction to this material. This book also includes a list of the books that can be consulted further on the topic.

Qasas al-Anbiya by al-Nawawi (Dar al-Hanki, 2 volumes, edn. 738), and a part of al-Muhallaat al-Maksaat (Dar al-Tibaarakah, 2 volumes, edn. 903). This book has material similar to that of Qasas al-Anbiya by al-Afghani, but with a much less detailed presentation of the various points that are discussed in al-Afghani’s work.

Qasas al-Anbiya by al-Attas (Dar al-Mukhtar). This book is organized similarly to the books of the Companions of the Prophet (pics). He will mention who they are when they narrate the hadeeth of the Prophet, and how he narrates it.

Qasas al-Anbiya wa Hadeeth Tahwil ul-Muslim by al-Ra’ee al-Awsat (Dar al-Hudhud) and al-Mufti (Dar al-Jawwad). It includes both narrative and hadeeths, and in the case of the narrative is divided into chapters (a few hadeeths are presented as stand alone narrations). There are pre-printed maps at the top of the pages to show what the surrounding countries were like, and the book has good notes on the material, useful as a source.
