dvbtools – now in spanish: dvbtools has released dvbtools 2.02 for the hvr-950, and you can now set the bluelight length on the hvr-950. dvbtools is a set of tools to get your hvr-950 to work with both unifi and gefen. dvbtools supports the hvr-950/hvr-950q, and comes with a web page that will access your remote for you. it allows you to change settings like the bluelight length, and even has an ir-receiver applet for windows. you can start the setup from the menu on the remote control. dvbtools can be downloaded from sourceforge.net.

dvbreceiver – android hvr-950 plugin: dvbreceiver.com has released an android application to access the hvr-950 via a cable card to watch live channels. i was going to make an applet for mythtv to access these as well, but never got around to it.

now here’s another low tech method to get the pvr-950 working on mythbuntu 8.10/8.04 with ubuntu installer: when you go to a mythbuntu installation (aka mythbuntu 8.10) everything is installed to /media/mythtv. this way the home directory is still in the default location. you’ll need to create a directory on your mythbuntu install somewhere like: /home/username/external-usb-dvbtuner. once that is setup the pvr-950 will be found and you can configure it like any other card.

unifi – universal tv capture card: if you want the best way to get a pvr-950 working with unifi for 4-tuners (this will work for the 950q as well). unifi only supports tivo cards and the pvr-950 (thanks to oblogd for this). details can be found here:

ultrarecord – software for pvr-950/950q: ultrarecord’s software is the first program that can give the hvr-950 any of the features of their software, the elite. this allows you to have more than just one pvr-950 in your htpc.
