Commander, Naval Air Forces guidance on NATOPS for Navy manned and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) is an important consideration to planning operational missions. Change NATOPS publications requires following a full approval process. Changes can be rapidly accomplished for urgent/safety of flight issues (via electronic directive to make pen and ink modifications to publications/procedures). There is also an annual conference for manual users (aircrew, maintenance personnel, engineers, policy makers, etc.) do deal with more routine/less urgent matters. These conferences produce a list of recommended changes that are then vetted by an approval process prior to promulgation.
All NATOPS procedures that will not result in an aborting of the flight are considered normal. The helicopter is considered out of control at the time of an aborted or pilot ordered abort when the flight has been in the air for one minute or more. [1]
