dolls are kind of creepy, especially the ones that are designed to be life-like. this is the sole fact that seems to drivemaria, leonora teresa, which pits a group of characters against three of these dolls. but the film seems to severely misunderstand what exactly makes these dolls so scary. as a result, scenes that are meant to be terrifying mostly end up looking pretty silly, the movie trying in vain to sell the threat of a four-foot entity wielding a knife.
it was a not so good weather last friday when i watched maria leonora teresa, the latest offering from star cinema and wenn deramas. initially, i think this horror movie is promising considering deramas is known for his box office credentials, such aspraybeyt benjamin and girl boy bakla tomboy. his maria leonora teresa will be second tothe last movie before star cinema closes its star cinema 20th anniversary offering.
maria leonora teresas cliched characterization of a mother whose worst nightmare is compounded by her new best friend is the worst place to begin. maria teresa leona is not unhappy and the film does not seem to believe that any woman her age should be at peace with her lot. she is, however, determined to work her deathbed toward a place of peace and quiet with a baby doll in tow. her daughter is dead and theres no holding back.
aside from this,maria leonora teresa also suffers from self-importance.this is the most needless film on the whole horizon and yeti perform as though to remind us that its here because of them. the screenplay treats the subject matter with an over the top flare that is at once gratuitous and laughable.
