by replacing the original installation files, i was able to convert the myst installation files into a portable myst:cd package which is essentially a zip archive. (i also placed the myst cd in the root of the archive for safety.)
the installation files for myst that end with myst-plot.mpq are mostly just compressed file archives. (the mpq file in the name means that the files are archived in the zip format.) however, there is a small amount of data in the form of wave files in the myst-plot.mpq installation files.
the installation files are named like the regular myst installation files and are not compressed. for example, the file myst-plot.mpq is the contents of the file data/myst/0/myst-plot.mpq. there are also 11 smaller files named myst-plot.mpq.001 to myst-plot.011. these files are not compressed and contain higher quality versions of the data files.
what the hell are those? never mind. it doesnt matter. look, remember when you were a kid, and you played myst for the first time and you were like, oh my god thats incredible, and then you played it for the first time again a few years later, and you were like oh my god that cant get any better? this is what that feels like. this is why you love myst.
