chalte chalte’s shah rukh khan, the big baadshah of bollywood, and a star who usually gets the last laugh, comes out of the film with a fistful of gems — as he ends up creating the first advertisement ever when the kid makes him promise to keep buying cigarettes and chewing pan for him so that his hair will stay longer.

how could i forget saif’s romeo-like smile as he watched his love, in the guise of rahul, ride away with a motorcycle from saif’s jealous brothers? and how could i forget raakhee, satish shah’s young but shrewd lawyer, asking that salman khan to vacate the child’s room, and start raising him?

true, it made fun of mumbo-jumbo islamic parent-child relations (the hijab for satish shah’s daughter seems to be only a peep-hole, and not a do-not-touch marker for the countless zardoz), and of the mumbai scams called muzaffarabad-in-mcmansions (the bollywood version of the international brand’s foxhill tower, through which this movie made its home in the bombay corporate geography). it also poked fun at the kinds of cine-entertainment for new girls that we indians take after our european counterparts.
