the next piece i did was bombo-kazooie. this is the theme tune to the game. its not too long, but it probably runs out a little quick. i made sure the drum parts were spot on. i wanted to try and replicate that thunderous sound, that big drum sound that the banjo-tooie trailer had that made it one of my favourite trailers at the time. i even got some thunder claps that i made and then i made some more thunder claps, then i tried to make some sky claps. the bossz of the game, bombo and kazooie, come from a different planet so i wanted to get a bit of that atmosphere going too. i thought about nuts and bolts and then i realised that in the trailer there is a moment when banjo and kazooie are floating around in space and then there is a big rumbling noise in the sky, i thought that was a great moment to bring in and it started that piece, but it also made me realise that if i made a piece that started with that and just went for the big stuff and it went for the thunder and the sky claps, i could make an epic piece.
i was really pleased with it. i thought it was really well done and i thought it was brilliant and i always wanted to do something like that. i thought it was a really good way of linking the two games. the first game was about banjo trying to remember what the banjo was all about, i think the second game is about banjo and kazooie trying to remember what the banjo was all about.
the last piece i did was a piece called the goldenrod rules. i still have the original file but i didnt have enough time to finish it. i did the drums on it, in the end i did all of that part, but i didnt get around to finishing it. this was a really hard piece to come up with, because i wanted to make a piece that was really, really, special. i wanted it to be the thing that got banjo and kazooie out of trouble. its not the biggest piece, but its the one that has the most character. its an action game, so i thought its time to go for something special, something that made banjo and kazooie go “wow”, something that made them think about banjo and kazooie. there was a big part of me that wanted to make a really big piece, and then there was another part of me that said “wait a minute, you cant do that, you cant have the whole game be about banjo and kazooie trying to remember what the banjo was all about”. i thought, what if it were just a piece about how the banjo was playing the banjo and kazooie would try and stop him. thats when i realised i had to make a really big piece and then i had to make it special, and that made me go for the goldenrod rules. i think its very special, i think its a great way to put the game to bed. i hope you think so too.
