I just started Apostol and would appreciate feedback on how Apostol changes your understanding of the material in calculus. We dont have access to Apostol either as is or in book form because there is no solution manual, only a solutions manual. I think it is important for Apostol to be a solution manual for students trying to solve Apostol. Apostol I found slightly easier than Apostol II for the first week of Calculus then Apostol became more hard than Apostol II. Even in the sections where the Apostol is more technically challenging Apostol has exercises to help the student. Apostol II is extremely hard for the first volume, maybe even the hardest on this list Apostol II did not help me to identify any of the problems that Apostol II does not approach. The analogies with linear algebra and the functional analysis is good, Apostol may not have anything as specific as Stewart has in Linear Algebra, but it seems to follow the same general theme. I have not seen any problems in volumes I and II that I feel I could not solve from Apostol but most definitely I may be wrong. I am going to just do the exercises in volumes I and II a new set every day. I am on day 20 of volume I and look forward to finishing vol I by the end of the week.
I just finished the first volume of Apostol. I am enjoying Apostol and hope to complete the second volume soon. Apostol is very hard on the first volume and I am glad I bought the volume 2 set before I started Apostol. I would advise to not start Apostol unless you have the previous volumes. You can always go back and do Apostol II.
