The film has been based on life of the 15th century poet, mystic, gurparshi and spiritual leader of Sikhs Guru Nanak. The film stars actor Diljit Dosanjh as Nanak, who has earlier acted in Housefull 4 and Tagore. For his portrayal of Nanak, the actor has won the Filmfare award for the Best Actor – Punjabi. The film also features Mukul Dev in the role of Guru Nanak’s adopted son, Bhai Mardana, who was the original character in Sartaj Singh Pannu’s film.
