Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny Generation Of CE JAP PS2 Yuuji Iso
Since I first heard about the upcoming anime adaptation when it was first announced, I was a bit skeptical of SEED Destiny’s impact. I’m just a current-generation fan – despite having grown up with mecha anime through the 90s’s and early 00s’s – and while SEED was an extremely entertaining show with a great cast of memorable characters and an awesome setting, it came off as an unapologetic cash-grab of Anime-esque sequel series.
The real tragedy of SEED Destiny, however, was that it was just so damn cute. The show tries to do something very weird and tries to act like its hard-edged and brutal-looking, but most of the time it doesn’t work. It’s very obvious in Episode’s 1-3’s fight scenes and it’s also very on-the-nose in the constant music and anime cutscenes.
If I really had to push it, Destiny would be the best of the three main Gundams we got in the 00s. Despite SEED not being about war, the art style fits the story about a bunch of teenagers and it shows. Destiny is a great mecha franchise that has so far only been about friendship and sharing friendship with others and it’s an absolute joy to see that translated on the screen. I wouldn’t really consider Gundam, Zeta or Double Zeta as the best of the main Gundams, but Destiny does quite a bit more for mecha anime as a whole.
Well, it’s half-decent. The animation isn’t very good and it suffers in still shots more than any other series I’ve seen. The biggest problem is the audio, which is rather boring. Destiny has the worst music of any Gundam work I’ve seen. Still, Destiny is a decent way to spend twenty or thirty minutes.
