The Elden Ring is a fantasy action RPG set in the Lands Between. I’m still a big fan of the game despite being a non-fan of their story-line and having significant problems with the combat system. But I’m very much a fan of the setting and the worldbuilding. Which is awesome because you can find some really old games, sometimes even as rare as originals, on pixiv. So I’d tell people to check that out for some kind of inspiration. So this game, really?

The world is well-designed and built from scratch, despite the game’s early generation of content. It’s got a fresh atmosphere that you can explore freely, including a lot of side quests.
The heroes are created from scratch, and their appearances are customizable. You can go as far as modifying their personalities, their eyes, and even their height. But I hope you enjoy the default style you get because the default style sucks. However it’s not that the default style is bad; it’s that the interface has a lot of lags and bugs. And the only way to experience the beauty of the game is to set the game to high-resolution mode.
The game is generally pretty fun. Battles are fun, too, especially if you’re skilled. The game has various good concepts, like combining weapons and armor, or using your skill to resolve critical damage. The gameplay is unique in that you can heal your party as long as you keep the stamina meter at 100%, which requires a lot of strategic thinking.
The features are plenty, too. As you progress, there are sidequests that reward you with weapons, skills, and even money. However the leveling can be tedious because you don’t receive experience points right away.
While the story’s hard to follow, I enjoyed the worldbuilding and the setting. There’s an old, charming world where there’s no modern conveniences, and in which there are no people, only monsters. It was a nice change of pace from the modern world, but I don’t think I can forgive the game for its lack of line-directing. The books that are meant to be a prologue to the story can be read over and over again for enjoyment, but they’re written in a confusing way.
