some of the really big things are.. first of all, we have the new guild wars eternal mode. the reason we had to add that new game mode is because the game just can’t sustain itself without an external funding source, or external reason to keep the game active. so, we had to add eternal. what that means is, on top of guild wars 2, we’re going to also run guild wars eternal. because we have an external source of money to keep us alive, we can do crazy things. we can add new game modes, new story arcs, new dungeons, new events, new treasure tables, new game modes, and all sorts of things. we did this because guild wars 1 just can’t sustain itself. its like the game is dying. its really interesting that we feel that way about our game, but i think that as we get further along with the game and we have more and more of our own content, we will be able to use the game as a sort of living, breathing thing, that is still guild wars 2, but is also bigger than that. its like guild wars 1 is a game that is dying, but guild wars 2 will be a living, breathing thing that is guild wars, and that is like a new thing to do, and that’s what we are doing. the first guild wars 2, guild wars 2: heart of thorns, is going to be more like, we are going to focus on this big thing, and then we will do new things, and make it bigger. guild wars 2: heart of thorns, is going to be like a guild wars 1, but its going to be like a guild wars 2, and that’s what we are going to be doing.
the other big change, and this is really going to surprise a lot of people, is that guild wars 2 has a new technology that it uses called a dynamic & static server. dynamic servers are what are traditionally called dedicated servers. they are servers that are dedicated to a single game. in guild wars 2, we can have multiple games on a single server. so, instead of having one game on one server, we can have many games on one server. so, instead of having to buy a dedicated server to run a game, we can just rent one from amazon. we can have multiple games on a single server and that server can have multiple players.
