the discretization of space and time in one-dimensional scalar advection problems with stiff diffusion equation (sdae) is an area of great complexity which is also difficult to analyze. in this paper, we consider a class of sdae problems and develop a novel sdae-based t-spline approximation for these problems. the t-spline provides a proper high-order approximation through decomposition of the solution into the products of spline basis functions and suitable nonnegative coefficients. the t-spline approximation is taken in place of the original sdae problem to get the nonlinear multi-index spline system. we then apply the modified newton method based on the nonlinear multi-index spline system to solve the nonlinear multi-index spline system. this new method has shown better and faster convergence than the iterative collocation and jacobi methods, although it also has a larger computational cost. in this paper we present an interface-based software tool for the simulation of contact problems using finite elements. the software tool consists of a dedicated numerical library and a graphical user interface (gui). the numerical library provides a class for describing the geometric model, forces, contact law, the contact formulation and the boundary condition framework, and the finite element library provides non-class based finite element functionality. an interface is developed using this numerical library to interact with a structural mechanics analysis program. the contact problem is solved using the 4n-node contact element and the boundary condition framework is implemented using a singular surface element formulation. two contact formulations are implemented: a lumped formulation with a tangential sliding friction term and a classical contact formulation, which uses a sliding friction term and rolling friction. implementation of the boundary condition framework makes the user interface available in cad programs by exporting the whole contact surface and the contact boundary. the simulation is performed under static and dynamic conditions. a tutorial describing the interface and its implementation is included. 5ec8ef588b
