the pocket loox n100’s user interface is user-friendly. the menu wheel lets you move to any item on the home screen and access its content easily. options are displayed in the menu, and clicking on one brings up a sub-menu. you can use the menu wheel in the middle of the screen to quickly browse the menus. and, clicking on an icon brings up a list of options on the right. there’s also an option to change the screen resolution to 1024×768. the home screen, which is customizable, can be moved around, sized to fit the available screen space, and divided into six or eight panes. there are eight fixed items and one option to add a menu. you can also organize your favorite apps into folders, and you can put the folders on the home screen. you can add text in the info window, and there’s a one-touch speak button. the tasks screen lists any appointments or reminders you may have created, and lets you jump to them.
using the keyboard and the included stylus, you can write notes and make annotations on a map. the handwriting text is stored with the map and can be viewed at a later time. you can download maps from the internet, or add your own. the maps tool allows you to search for a location, zoom in, and use the pen to draw a polyline, circle, rectangle, or square. you can also add waypoints and add notes to them. you can also create turn-by-turn directions, and you can define your routes. the route information is stored with your account information.
theres a directional control pad below the screen. around the outside of the display, towards the back of the unit, you will find the recessed slot for the 13-pin interface cable that plugs into the back of the computer. look for a tiny side door just to the left of the slot, and you will see theres a plug-in connector. slide the connector out, and a mini-usb port is revealed. plug the cable into this port and the pocket loox 600 will begin charging. you will need a laptop to connect the unit to, but you might want to try using your desk phone when youre at work. theres a headphone jack on the side panel, and if you plan on using bluetooth headsets, you will need to buy a spare aaa battery.
