if youre not familiar with the arcade, i dont want to spoil too much for you, but i can say that theres no other game like daytona on the saturn and even the arcade versions are quite a bit different from the console versions. it plays very smoothly, and it feels the way arcade games should. theres just a few issues with the saturn version, mainly it being a little too slow (depending on how much money you paid for it) and it has a slightly different control scheme, but it still plays well and its definitely worth a look.

well, this is the big one, and the one that has everybody talking (but i doubt they will be talking about the things that ive mentioned, like the handling of the cars). however, its also the one where i find myself slightly divided. i can tell you that the arcade version of daytona has never been released outside of japan, and for good reason. it is an absolute classic and a game that should be in every arcade cabinet and every saturn owners library. the arcade version is also the one that most closely resembles the original sega rally championship version, which was released on the sega mega drive in 1990, and this is the version that inspired the daytona xp game that we have now. its one of the best driving games ever made, but it was a little rough in the translation to the saturn.

aside from the pure spectacle of daytona usa’s racing, the game is one of those rare games that is really meant for the car enthusiast. in fact if you’ve got a decent racing wheel, saturn remote or sega saturn controller, you’ll want to pick up daytona usa, if for no other reason that to just sit back and enjoy the scenery of the multiple cities and tracks that make up daytona usa. its a real treat to see these locations up close, and you’ll truly appreciate the detail that went into the background of each race track.
