the film is not the best example of a film with good b-titles. i have a hard time recalling a specific sequence in which the hindi title of the movie makes a positive contribution to the film. but i am certain that the directors of zanjeer are not the only ones to ignore the vital importance of a hindi title for the success of their film. all the same, the inclusion of some good b-titles, such as the ones that ram charan shouts out for his mother and father would’ve been a good addition to the film.
on a personal note, this film was the first in my life where i could recognize the style and the direction. till then, i had only watched films like enthiran, iruvai pudhir, thiruda thiruda, kudremukh, thimitha oka roju and so on. i saw two or three films in that genre. zanjeer made me realize that this is the kind of movie i like — you know, the kind that leaves you breathless with its numerous twists, turns, surprises, and because of that, you don’t want the movie to stop.
i thought that the film was a big letdown when i heard of the change of director. initially, i was under the impression that the director of zanjeer was the same one who directed zoom. but after watching the film, i realized that it’s completely different and i am sure that the film would’ve been better with apoorva. it’s a pity that apoorva fell victim to the pressure of being the successor to a famous director. in spite of all that, he has given us a fun film, and it is, in a way, a salute to the director’s previous film, because zanjeer is a tribute to the earlier zanjeer.
