the problem with the comments above are that they are ignorant of economics and of history. in the last 17 years, the money supply has increased by about $3.5 trillion dollars. this is because of the federal reserve banking system. the way that happens is a government agency called the treasury department creates money out of thin air. the treasury then issues these “dollars” for credit. banks then credit them into the checking account of the particular private citizen who wants a loan. the citizen credits their account with the government for the loan. then the government credits the checking account of the commercial bank. if the commercial bank cannot pay its checks, the money is suspended. if it is unable to pay its debt, the bank is not allowed to lend and then the market freezes up and credit for all commodities suddenly is reduced by a sudden shortage of money. this was what happened during the 1970’s. the best i can find is a printout of a lecture by michael kolarich, economics professor at rutgers university of new jersey. he pointed out the government, not the banks, are the true sources of credit. it is “derived from the government’s power to create money”. he goes into considerable detail. he says that money is not credit or a store of value. all they are is names. really? i think youre utterly convinced theyre nothing but names with no actual value except name value. i wonder why? you may be right (i doubt it). i also doubt that banks are the true sources of credit. what is true is that the govt creates the money from thin air and then, the banks credit the govt’s number at them. look it up and you will see. 5ec8ef588b
