nica gets home from school, and is distraught that she forgot to give her brother-in-law her cell phone. he wasn’t there for their mother’s funeral, and she has to call him at his job. he comes home and is drunk, drunk enough to let her in. nica laughs at him, saying she needs to talk to him. she says that he’s done something bad and wonders what he’s done to alice.

ian goes to talk to his wife, who is watching tv in the other room. he offers to watch the kids with her, which she accepts. ian goes to watch alice, who has eaten her lunch. he looks down at her, excited that she’s “perfect”. alice wakes up and puts a dish soap in her mouth. she takes out the little white pills and offers them to ian.

chucky shows up with a pizza and they eat together. chucky then goes over to ian and says that he wants to have a movie marathon with him. he suggests they watch a horror movie. ian shows chucky the james bond film live and let die. chucky reads the tagline off the screen, which is “when things go wrong, you’ve got to improvise”. chucky starts to tell ian to hit himself with a hammer. ian then says that he doesn’t have a hammer and it’s not the right movie.




I’ve never found the Child’s Play series to be particularly scary, but this one makes the one in the 1988 film look like it was conceived in a high-spirited comic book mindset rather than a more heightened reality. It’s also a lot more disturbing than the 1988 film, both the version that was shown on television in the UK and the version that was made for television in the States. And despite the TV version being a bit of a stretch, there was at least a brief sequence in the U.S. version that was pretty effective. If you’re in the mood for Chucky, you may find it in the right mood. But I think the whole idea of this new movie is to be wacky and completely humorless. Ian and Alice arrive at the McCall house the following day. Ian arrives first, and Alice follows to tell him what happened the previous night. Ian, who has no memory of the events that took place, offers to take Alice to a hospital. Meanwhile, Father Frank arrives at the McCall house and tells Ian that he may be the victim of an evil spirit. Barb, who had arrived first with her husband, learns from the police that Father Frank was found dead in a car with the head dislodged from his body. At the hospital, Nica reveals to Alice that Chucky is inside her, and she and Barb must find a way to use the doll against Chucky. Meanwhile, Ian and Alice spend the day together, and Alice begins to believe that Chucky is real. They decide to go to the house that night and confront Chucky. They arrive at the house and Ian and Alice decide to check in on Nica, who is still painting in her mother’s flower pictures. Chucky leaves Alice a note that says: “Remember: If you want your sister alive, don’t open the box.” Alice opens the box, and Chucky disappears. Ian insists on watching television. Shortly after, Chucky runs in from a nearby neighbor’s garage, knocking over a lamp and scattering the cartoon characters to the floor.
