Mindrifc! I just saw this movie yesterday and I already forgot who takes the bullets in this movie. It’s the regular guy Shoaib… I don’t know much about Khan and Parma, but I think I have seen this scene before. So the one who takes a bullet is Zoya’s husband, Shoaib. And Bollywood just feels almost ashamed to use a south Asian woman to take the bullets while the hero of the movie is a Muslim. They should have gone with Arya or Abhishek Bachchan instead. Shoaib is no threat to Khan or Parma, he just wants to be a doctor. What about the argument of the movie that if he does not take the bullets, the may win, just like Parma does. He just wants to become a doctor, just like Aditi. The idea that as long as the 2 characters marry each other and live happily together, everything will be fine is less than logical. And I do not like movies that end on a happy note. I want the hero and the villain to have a last shot at each other. So that the hero will admit to his mistakes and the villain will confess to his crimes. I am not sure if I would consider Shoaib an anti-hero or not. He did not commit a crime in the movie, but he is kind of a loser. He just wants to marry a south Asian woman and become a doctor. I can understand his motivation though. He is, however, never given the slightest room to argue or explain himself to Zoya. He is just a character without even that much. I am not too sure if I like him or not, because I like him so much as an anti-hero, he probably should have been in the movie.
I was not keen on the first part of the film – but at the same time, I could not put it down. When Parma reveals his past to Zoya and to themselves, it left me flabbergasted, shocked and bemused. Why would a Muslim man chose a Jewish woman (a muslim man, but still) to marry – with her parents consent, as a marriage pact? And then, when everything is fine – well, I thought that was a bit of a bizaare way of pomeintioning the story. But, the second half of the film packed a gut punch. Zoya is a strong, independent, independent woman – who chooses not to let her husband take the bullets – though he is who is doing the job of her husband. It was emotional. My mum has just come back from a trip to India – we watched the movie on her laptop (she was on a plane to London – back home in a few hours…). We had the scene of Zoya in Shabbat praying where she says she can not marry Parma – and flashes back to her parents and the deals they struck. I was really crying that part of the movie.
As I try to situate myself in a misogynistic society and be a woman, I look around to my fathers side of family. He fought hard and made sure his daughters were safe from bullying. He also made sure we were educated and had the brains to succeed even if it meant being poorer than the rich families around us. It is a tough path to follow, and I am glad that I have the support of such a strong man. So, that is why it matters. It matters for this generation and my fathers generation. But it also matters for the generations to come. There is no definite reason why these generations are this way. There is no definitive reason why girls are treated the way they are by society. I know the reasons why society treats women differently. But there is no definite proof that it is not because of this generation. That is why I feel its important to remind people about the different ways of parenting to be the change. And for that, we need the movies and the medium of movies to be there at all times. So, I will ensure this. The best part of the film is the clever way Zoya throws herself at her target and how she fakes out the guy. Its brilliant when shes trapped in the bathroom thanks to the men who think shes there to help with the changing room, even though she never said a word. She is lured to the bathroom by the guy, asks him, is he stealing the underwear for someone (such a question, but he goes right on) and then she says its for her so she can t give it to him. She then tells him where a changing room is in the mall and off he goes, and even though he doesnt actually steal the underwear, its enough that he believes he is. Like I said it doesnt make the rest of her character any less important, and having her matter so much is another credit to the film, but the fact is that if she hadnt been such a hot piece of meat she wouldnt have mattered. its like theyve got a scriptwriter who lacks imagination in the worlds of identity and gender, and makes everything personal and political for her. I think a part of me wishes she was a less important character, so that the person shes going up against could come off a little less unrealistic. And I think thats a good thing too, because the last half of the film was exactly this ishaqzaade full movie 720p hd Kudos must go to Anurag Kashyap who has managed to make a very political and sensitive movie that isnt bogged down by political discourse and still make it into a comedy (In one of the better ways, yes, the story itself is the comedy) and the performances are excellent. Rajkummar really does have a contortionist face, and that alone is worth a mention. When he steps out of the rakshas and into the rakshasa the stuff is going to get real, and the film has a few lines to shoot for, especially when it gets to the climax. 5ec8ef588b
