i’ve purchased a new windows 7 enterprise key from the microsoft store, my old key doesn’t work. can i buy a valid key from an official microsoft store and will it be recognised by windows 7? i don’t have any links to the store but i have a valid windows 7 enterprise subscription. my current key doesn’t work so i want to re-activate it. i’m not sure if this is the right way to do it but i’ve tried to activate it but the “windows product activation” tool says it’s invalid. i think i need to activate it to the microsoft store but i can’t get to the microsoft store and i don’t know the exact steps to get to the microsoft store from where i’m at (i don’t use the microsoft store).

if you install your own copy of windows, you will need a retail product key. the installation disc is not required if you have a valid product key. all retail keys are redeemable at the microsoft store.

you must activate the digital entitlement within 30 days of purchase. if you are running windows7, windows8, or windows8.1, you must activate the digital entitlement on the device where you installed windows. the only explanation i can think of is that the illegitimate version of windows that i had installed on this system previously somehow embedded the product key into the uefi/bios and essentially linked with my motherboard, so that whenever any new windows installation on this motherboard connects to the internet it reads the uefi/bios key and validates it. anyway, let’s suppose that you’d lost the licence/product key. if there’s still a windows o.s. in your possession (a retail dvd or an o.e.m partition in local drive c: or a recovery media) you can buy a new one from microsoft for approximately (depends on country region and local market prices) 30-40 $. if the site is complicated or difficult in understanding for you, call them. they are qualified and can solve most of the problems. hope this is helpful, not only for you but for others too. i’d tried to keep it as simple as it can be. what makes me think it isn’t legitimate is that (a) i’ve never bought a windows key since vista; (b) this is a diy system, not oem, so it shouldn’t have any product keys linked to the hardware (and if it does, then it should be legitimate). i don’t think the crack was a usual software crack, i think maybe it was one that embedded a key into the uefi/bios rather than messing with the software activation. either that or it’s using an oem key or something which is ‘grey market’ and i want something completely legit. 5ec8ef588b
