if only the ‘gumrah’ songs were a bit more rockier, this album, could well have been the best yet. ‘gumrah’, ‘toh awaaz’ and ‘tujhe mera dost’ are the three songs in this category and all of them fail to create a lasting impact. the only redeeming feature with the song ‘tujhe mera dost’ being the voice of shafqat amanat ali. this can only be considered a minor issue, however. ‘dosti’ is also an important song that brings the album to an all-time high. in fact, the one and only song that actually manages to create a positive impact out of the entire album is the track that has the ‘bhrasht’ theme running throughout. ‘dosti’ manages to keep the audience engaged in the second half of the album as well as the last song that makes an album end on a high note. it’s an undeniably good song and is a decent soundtrack. on the whole, the album does not disappoint and is a decent effort in the yrf collection. one can, however, do much better in their endeavours of creating high-end soundtracks next time around. this could have been excellent! as i mentioned earlier, “mere brother ki dulhan” is produced by yash raj films and is a comedy. the movie revolves around the lives of two brothers, a cleaner and a delinquent. the melody of the song “mere brother ki dulhan”, sung by irrfan, is quite fast and incorporates some of the typical bollywood instruments such as the harmonium and drum set. the lyrics of the song are written by anvita dutt and sapna awad and were also made into a single. the song “tujhe mera dost” is more of a magical sounding number that has some uplifting qualities which should be the order of the day on any musical releases. “gumrah” with its beautiful melody and un-pretentious lyrics was a good conclusion to this album. “yeh daaliya”, sung by harshdeep kaur & shweta pandit has an interesting song that does a good job of combining and mixing bollywood and sikh traditions. “tujhe mera dost” keeps people entertained with a catchy melody and un-pretentious lyrics. on the whole, a great soundtrack. one can, however, do much better in their endeavours of creating high-end soundtracks next time around. this could have been excellent! –bollywoodhungama.com 5ec8ef588b
