How do I access a variable defined in a class from an object?
I have a simple class I use for all my program, the class is called Settings. In it I have a variable Settings.Downvotes which starts as a value of 0 and when I set a value of 1 it increases by 1.
I have a button that checks to see if the settings are above 10 and if so increases the value by 1. I want the value of the variable Settings.Downvotes to be a reference to the value that is checked.
How would I do this?
What I have tried

You can’t access variables declared in a class from a class member function.
You can solve it in a couple of ways:
Declare your class member variable as a static variable – that is, a variable which has the same scope as the containing class.
Declare your variable in the constructor function of the containing class.
Declare your variable as a private member variable.
